Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Shanghai to attend a two-day summit and to sign a gas deal with Beijing .
It is Putin’s first visit since China’s President Xi Jinping became head of state and it comes as both country’s seek to build ties in the face of Western criticism and territorial disputes.
The Asian security summit coincides with the start of week-long joint naval drills in the East China Sea.
