Israeli basketball team Maccabi Tel Aviv returned home to a heros welcome this week after winning the Euroleague title.
Thousands of fans crammed into the arrivals terminal at Ben-Gurion Airport to welcome home their team although the numbers brought the terminal to a standstill forcing the players to exit through a side door.
Later in the day some 30,000 supporters celebrated the club’s latest piece of silverware at Rabin Square in the centre of Tel Aviv.
Rank outsiders in the tournament’s Final Four phase in Milan, Maccabi capped off a superb weekend when they beat Real Madrid 98-86 in overtime in the showpiece match.
It was Maccabi’s sixth European title and first in nine years
