Lionel Messi is to become football’s highest paid player after the Argentine signed a readjustment to his contract with Barcelona.
The new financial deal will earn the four-times world player of the year a reported 20 million euros a year.
Although the financial aspect of his contract has changed the duration of Messi’s stay at the Camp Nou has not and runs until June 2018.
Messi’s new contract comes on the same day Barca appointed former player Luis Enrique as their new manager.
The 44-year-old former Roma, Celta Vigo and Barca B team boss has signed a two-year contract.
He replaces Argentine Gerardo Martino, who resigned on Saturday after a disappointing season in which the club failed to win any major silverware.
