Barcelona captain Carles Puyol has confirmed he will retire at the end of the season due to a persistent knee injury.
At a farewell event held at the Camp Nou stadium, the 36-year-old, surrounded by the whole first team and football legends such as Fernando Hierro and Johann Cruyff, said goodbye to followers and friends.
Puyol, who joined Barca’s youth academy in 1995, led the Catalans to six league titles, three Champions Leagues, two Copa del Reys, two World Club Cups and six Spanish Supercups.
