Relatives of miners trapped deep underground wait anxiously for any news about their loved ones.
In front of the Soma State Hospital, their hope of being reunited with their husbands, fathers, sons is fading.
Many will remember the Zonguldak mine explosion in the north of Turkey nearly 20 years ago in which nearly three-hundred miners lost their lives.
The scale of this tragedy threatens to overshadow earlier ones and tear apart families in this small mining community.
Our euronews correspondent, Bora Bayraktar, reported from outside the hospital in Soma:
“The hopeful waiting lasted until early morning. Then as the bad news came in, a deep grief filled the air. Now relatives are still waiting for any information about their loved ones,” he said.
