Sevilla won the Europa league on Wednesday night after beating Benfica 4-2 in a penalty shootout in a drab final at the Juventus Stadium in Turin.
Neither side could break the dead lock in regulation time nor in extra time so off to the penalty spot both teams went.
Sevilla proved to have more in the legs and hit four out of four as Benfica missed twice.
It is the third time in Sevilla’s history that they have won Europe’s second tier competition, equaling the record of Juventus, Inter and Liverpool.
It was Benfica’s eighth consecutive defeat in a European final and second time in two years after last season’s defeat by Chelsea.
