Benfica and Sevilla set for Europa league final

Benfica will attempt to break their European curse on Wednesday when they meet Sevilla in the Europa League final at the Juventus Stadium in Turin.

This season Benfica have won the domestic league and League Cup but have lost their last seven European finals, including last year’s showpiece match against Chelsea.

Coach Jorge Jesus will be without suspended Eduardo Salvio and Enzo Perez while Silvio and Ljubomir Fejsa are injured as Benfica hunt a treble winning season.

Jesus said: “Benfica has already won titles in Portugal this year, tomorrow we have another one to win. We are focused and full of confidence to win our third trophy of the season.”

Sevilla will be looking to join Juventus, Inter and Liverpool in winning Europe’s second tier competition for a record equaling third time.

The Spaniards will be without the services of Jairo Samperio through suspension, while midfielders Denis Cheryshev and Sebastian Cristoforo are out injured.

Midfielder Vitolo faces a late fitness test on a hamstring problem.

Sevilla coach Unai Emery said: “The Europa League is very rewarding and we really want to put in a great performance to be able give back as much as we get. Obviously we want to win tomorrow, but we know that it’ll be very difficult. This is the final push we need to give.’‘
