Osama bin Laden look-alike to welcome World Cup tourists

The arrival of large numbers of tourists to Brazil for this year’s World Cup looks set to be the perfect opportunity for locals to make some extra money. But in order to stand out from the crowd, one heavy metal bar owner is using his likeness to Osama bin Laden to lure visitors into his Sao Paulo bar.

“After the two towers were hit people started to call me bin Laden, ‘You look like Osama bin Laden,’ they would say. I shaved by beard because everyone was looking for him. I did that for six months and then finally I let my beard grow again and people started to call me Osama bin Laden again”. Francisco Fernandes said.

Fernandes says he’s aware that some people could take offence to his likeness of the man considered responsible for the attacks of September 11, 2001.

However, he said it hasn’t hurt business so far, even among U.S. tourists.
