Running through huge pools of muddy and icy water and ditches and negotiating some 34 obstacles over a half marathon distance is not what most people would call a fun day out.
However almost 12 thousand people – many of whom in fancy dress – tackled this gruelling course around Germany’s famous Nuerburgring race track on Saturday.
Throw rain and cold temperatures into the mix and the misery was complete for all.
The competitors were not to be deterred however and after one hour, 44.25 seconds Germans Tom Schlegel and Felix Grelak crossed the line together to take top honours for the second year running.
Swiss Carole Koster won the womens race in just over two hours six minutes.
