Gillian Backhouse from Australia has won the Chengdu World Cup triathlon in China.
South African Wian Sullwald was the best of the men and finished with a time of 1 hour 48 minutes and 47 seconds just one second ahead of Kevin McDowell from the United States.
After the swim and bike ride, Sullwald was running at the front joined by the American and New Zealand’s Tony Dodds. France’s Aurelien Lebrun was close behind them and eventually finished third.
The top three posted their career-best performances.
In the women’s event winner Gillian Backhouse picked up her first ITU World cup victory. Her previous best was 15th.
Jessica Broderick from the United States came in second 29 seconds behind.
Belgian Claire Michel finished third best.
