Former Long jumper Lamela found dead

Former European indoor long jump record holder Yago Lamela has been found dead at his home in Aviles in Northern Spain.

The details of his death are not yet known but the 36-year-old had long been suffering from depression and in June 2011 was hospitalized for psychiatric problems.

Lamela set a European indoor record at the world championships in 1999 with a leap of 8.56 metres although it was only good enough for the silver medal behind Cuban Iván Pedroso.

It was a continental record that stood for ten years.
