French second division club Clermont Foot have broken the mould in the male-dominated world of football by appointing a female manager.
The 36-year-old former Celtic scout Helena Costa of Portugal will take over the reigns at the Ligue 2 club starting at the end of the season having signed a two year contract.
Since 2012 Costa was in charge of the Iran women’s national team and has also coached Benfica’s male youth teams and the Qatar women’s side.
Before Costa, the highest-profile woman coach of a men’s team in Europe was Carolina Morace, who took charge of an Italian third division side for two matches in 1999.
