Greece launches new public broadcaster

Greece has launched a new state-run broadcaster to replace its predecessor ERT .

Called the New Greek Radio, Internet and Television or NERIT for short, it came on stream on Sunday evening.

The abrupt closure of ERT last June as part of government austerity measures caused a national outcry.

It also nearly brought down the coalition government of conservative Prime Minister Antonis Samaras after one of its allies defected over the row.
