The third leg of the Extreme Sailing Series took place in Qingdao China and the fourth and final day produced some spectacular racing.
It also produced one of the biggest crashes in the Series’ eight-year history.
On the notoriously unpredictable course Red Bull Sailing Team T-Boned Swiss syndicate Alinghi at nearly 15 knots knocking both boats out of racing.
Despite the deep cut into Alinghi’s hull which forced the crew to watch the final races from the docks it wasn’t all doom and gloom for the Swiss team who after being awarded a redress by the international jury took the stage victory.
Ahead of Act four in St Petersburg Alinghi now lead the overall series by two points from The Wave, Muscat from Oman.
