A German diplomat has been wounded in the Yemeni capital Sanaa in an apparent kidnap attempt by unidentified gunmen.
The diplomat’s car came under fire near the German embassy when it refused to stop after the attackers had tried to block the road.
The diplomat is said to have been wounded in the leg but his injuries are not life threatening.
Kidnapping of foreigners in Yemen is common.
The government is currently trying to overcome nearly three years of political turmoil which began when protests erupted in 2011 against President Ali Abdullah Saleh’s 33 years in office. He has since stepped down.
