Europa League: Benfica v Juventus


Last season’s runners up Benfica host Juventus in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final on Thursday.

The Portuguese club will look to continue their bid for a first European trophy since winning the old European Cup in 1962.

The Eagles won their 33rd domestic league title at the weekend but it cost the club Argentine midfielder Eduardo Salvio who broke is arm in the tie.

Midfielder Ljubomir Fejsa is also out with a tendon injury.

Carlos Tevez looks set to return to the Juventus fold after recovering from a minor thigh injury that kept him out of his club’s last two fixtures.

Midfielder Arturo Vidal may also be back after a knee problem as the Old Lady hope to continue their bid for a first European title since winning the Champions League in 1996.

Both teams are flying high at the moment and are unbeaten in the Europa league since parachuting into the competition from the Champions league group stage.

The other semi-final is an all Spanish affair as Sevilla lock horns with Valencia at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium.
