Workers at the main venue for the 2016 Olympics have ended a two-week strike which could resume if pay talks prove fruitless.

Although the unions and the building consortium responsible for the job said the stoppage will not compromise delivery dates for the Olympic Park, the strike was another warning to Brazilian organisers who are under pressure from the International Olympic Committee to speed up preparations for the Games.

While construction on the Deodoro complex has yet to begin, work to clean up severe pollution in Guanabara Bay, the sailing venue, faces delays and doubts about water quality with a test event set for August.
