Japan’s Takahisa Fujinami held his nerve to clinch the opening stage of the 2014 Trial World championship at Mount Tarrengower in Australia on Saturday.
The veteran looked in great shape and led from start to finish to edge out Repsol-Honda team-mate and reigning champion Toni Bou by the narrowest of margins.
Spain’s Jeroni Fajardo produced a solid run but it wasn’t to be for the 29-year-old who eventually had to settle for third place ahead of fellow countryman Adam Raga.
Britain’s James Dabill and World number four Albert Cabestany finished fourth and fifth respectively while Spanish rider Pol Tarres marked his move to the World Pro division with a solid seventh place.
