Morocco’s Rachid El Morabity maintained his dominance of this year’s Marathon des Sables by winning stage three.
Having also won the opening two stages in the Moroccan section of the Sahara desert, Morabity completed the 37.5 kilometre leg in a winning time of three hours, four minutes and 0.5 seconds.
With two more stages but three days of running left the 32-year-old holds a ten minute and 22 second lead over compatriot Abdelkader Elmouaziz in the overall standings.
Reigning champion Mohamad Ahansal is third overall a further two minutes adrift.
American Nikki Kimball was the fastest female athlete on the day but still trails three-time winner Laurence Klein of France by just over 18 minutes in the general classification.
