Estonian singer Tanja has been chosen to represent the small Baltic country at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest.
Her song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VRSXRXBWCs ‘Amazing’ was written especially for the event.
“‘Amazing’ is about an amazing lie – a feeling or a thing, a person or a situation that is so good and so important to you that you don’t want to let go of it (even though you know it’s a lie). It pulls you in. No matter how you try to escape, you don’t really want to, because it is just so good,” she says.
Born in 1983 in the Russian city of Kaliningrad, Tanja moved to Estonia when she was just a few months old. She started singing and dancing at a very early age, and says ‘Amazing’ is an opportunity for her to show off her skills in both disciplines: “We’re not just acting, we’re trying to tell a story through dance and song.
“Contemporary dance has always been a very important part of my life and I hadn’t had the chance to use it in such a big project before. Now the opportunity has come up and I am really glad that I can dance for this performance.”
Eurovision is not Tanja’s first song contest, but it is by far the biggest. The last time Estonia won was in 2001.
Tanja will be taking part in the first Eurovision semi-finals in Copenhagen on May 6.
