Jaba Kankava’s quick-thinking during Sunday’s Ukrainian Premier League clash between Dynamo Kiev and Dnipro may have saved the life of opponent Oleh Husyev.
The 28-year-old rushed to the Dynamo captain after he took a knee to the head from goalkeeper Denys Boyko, knocking him unconscious and causing his tongue to block his airway.
Kankava flipped Husyev over and frantically began sticking his fingers into his opponent’s mouth with other players quickly joining the rescue effort.
Later reports said that Husyev, who lost a tooth, suffered concussion and a jaw fracture, declined to be admitted to a local hospital and returned to the stadium to join his team-mates.
