Welcome to the first edition of our new motor sports programme ‘Speed’ in which David Martín takes us through Sunday’s Malaysian Grand Prix.
Quadruple world champion Sebastian Vettel showed signs of improvement in his Red Bull but Mercedes continue to set the early season pace thanks to Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.
2008 world champion Hamilton took control of the race from pole (his 33rd career pole position which equaled the late Jim Clark’s British record) and was untroubled throughout as he went on to secure his first race win of the campaign.
Teammate Rosberg crossed over in the second, Vettel completed the podium with Spain’s Fernando Alonso fourth.
The Mercedes one-two left their drivers top of the standings with Australian GP winner Rosberg sitting pretty at the summit.
Mercedes also leads the constructors race after two stops with the next one in Bahrain on 6 April.
