Head of Ukraine's navy released in Crimea

The commander of Ukraine’s navy has been freed, along with other hostages, according to Ukraine’s presidential website.

Serhiy Haiduk had been held since Wednesday when the navy’s base in Sevastopol was stormed by men describing themselves as a pro-Russian local defence force.

Ukraine has announced it plans to withdraw troops from Crimea. The region was formally annexed by Russia this week in a move widely regarded abroad as illegitimate.
