Do earthquakes also bring life?

Earthquakes may bring dreadful disasters, but they are “a necessary evil”, says Guust Nolet, a Dutch seismic tomographer. They show that the planet is not dead, and they allow life and landscapes to develop. Without earthquakes, Guust says, we would all be underwater.
