Libya port protesters say they have started oil exports

Armed protesters controlling ports in eastern Libya say they have started exporting oil independently, bypassing the government.

A North Korean tanker has docked at one of the ports in the hands of rebels, demanding a greater share of Libya’s oil wealth.

The oil standoff is one part of deepening turmoil in Libya, where the government is struggling to control militias who helped topple Muammar Gaddafi in 2011 but kept their weapons and are now challenging state authority.
