Ukraine USA match to go ahead in Cyprus


Despite the current instability in Ukraine the friendly match between the USA and Ukraine is to go ahead in Cyprus.

The fixture was originally due to be played in Kharkiv, but events forced a rethink.

After much negotiation the match goes ahead in Larnaca.

Andriy Pylyavskyi, due to make his debut for Ukraine, explained what happened:

“Initially they decided we would not travel, but then the federation called us and said the match would go ahead I don’t know why they changed their mind.”

The match will serve as force for peace in Ukraine according to the country’s new sports minister.

Other friendly matches of note.

Spain meet arch rivals Italy in Madrid. While Russia entertain Armenia in Krasnodar.

England take on Denmark at Wembley.

And France and the Netherlands lock horns in the French capital.

World Cup hosts Brazil are in action against South Africa.
And one of the fancied teams in Brazil, Belgium, play the Ivory Coast.
