Schulz wins 'one-horse race' to become Socialist choice for top EU job

The European Socialists picked Martin Schulz on Saturday to be their preferred candidate to become the next president of the European Commission.

The 58-year-old German politician was the only name in the race.

Schulz, currently the president of the European Parliament, wants the 28-member bloc to focus more on job creation.

Euronews asked the one-time bookseller whether he thinks he can stay on in his current role and campaign for Germany’s Social Democrats at the forthcoming EU elections.
