Ukraine’s deposed president Viktor Yanukovych, who has not been seen publicly in almost a week, has reportedly been given protection by Moscow, according to a Russian official quoted by several Russian news agencies.
The fugitive leader apparently asked for help from the Kremlin and was said to have been staying at Moscow’s Barvikha sanatorium, which is run by the presidential administration’s property department.
Yanukovich is now wanted in Ukraine on charges of mass murder over the police shooting of demonstrators.
The ousted leader is expected to hold a news conference later on Friday in the southern Russian city of Rostov. Euronews plans to broadcast the event live at 14.00 CET on February 28.
