In Madrid, hundreds of fans of Spanish flamenco guitar legend Paco de Lucia came to pay their final respects on Friday.
The 66 year old died on Wednesday from a heart attack in Mexico. His body was flown to Madrid and taken to the National Auditorium music centre.
Fellow flamenco guitarists were amongst the mourners who paid their respects by filing past the coffin.
“Paco was a genius who has opened the door for guitarists, he opened the whole world for us.” said Pep Habichuela
Another guitarist, Josemi Carmona, said: “He was our idol as well as our friend, and in my opinion, he was one of the greatest artists in the history of music.”
Spain’s Prince Felipe also came to pay his condolences to the family of Paco de Lucía.
The guitarist reinvented traditional flamenco, introducing jazz and latin rhythms and brought it to a wider audience around the world.
Paco de Lucia’s body will be taken to his home town of Algeciras in Andalusia for a public wake overnight and burial on Saturday.
