It was another eventful night in the Champions League, with both matches seeing goals scored in under fifteen minutes.
Karim Benzema scored Real Madrid’s first goal against FC Schalke in the 13th minute and followed up with a second in the 57th, thanks to a through ball from Ronaldo.
Fresh from a three-match domestic ban, Ronaldo was on form, setting up the second goal for Gareth Bale in the 21st minute, while Bale set Ronaldo up for a 51st minute goal.
Both Bale and Ronaldo went on to score second goals; Bale in the 68th minute and Ronaldo in the 89th.
In a last-ditch bid, Klaas Jan Huntelaar came back with a 90th-minute goal for Schalke.
The final score was 6-1 to the away side.
Galatasaray VS Chelsea
But it was more a game of yellow cards than goals in the Galatasaray – Chelsea match. Four of the five bookings made by referee Carlos Velasco Carballo went to Chelsea players.
Both teams go into the second leg on a 1-1 draw, with the Blues scoring the first of the night’s two goals.
Assisted by César Azpilicueta, Chelsea’s Fernando Torres scored in the ninth minute at Galatasaray.
The home team took a while to retaliate, but Aurélien Chedjou finally did the honours in the 63rd minute.
The return leg for both matches will be on March 18.
