Violence escalates in Kyiv
Anti-government protesters and riot police faced off in Kyiv’s Independence Square on Wednesday afternoon after a night of violence in which 25 people were killed.
After a night of petrol bombs and gunfire, anti-government protesters defended the parts of Kyiv’s Independence Square they hadn’t lost the night before.
European Union leaders condemned what they called “the unjustified use of excessive force” and said they were urgently preparing targeted sanctions against those responsible for the crackdown.

Protesters unfurled a banner with the image of US President Donald Trump and threw shoes at it, condemning his perceived closeness with Israel.
