President Viktor Yanukovych opened talks with the Foreign Ministers of France, Germany and Poland.
The discussions will resume on Friday. The Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said the Ukrainian president had expressed willingness to hold early elections this year.
The foreign ministers had been due to return to Brussels on Thursday. Instead they went on to meet with members of the opposition parties.
The Russian foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, who was in Iraq blamed the West for encouraging what he called radicals for “acting outside of the law.”
“All of our Western partners and everyone in Europe and the USA put all the blame on the government of Ukraine. And they do acknowledge, like it is, the actions of the extremists. We are very troubled by that, because the double standards are obvious,” he said.
