Wondering how to dress for that football match on Saturday night? Why not try about the new sequined football jersey by Tom Ford?
The American designer has been showing off his upcoming collection at London Fashion Week – aside from the football jerseys, there were velvet and fur tunics, leather pencil skirts and multicoloured fur coats for a show that oozed confidence and elegance.
“My collections always make reference to the sixties and seventies and that sort of streamlined, sixties shape, especially streamlined London sixties shapes. Maybe I’ve been looking at all the David Bailey retrospectives and talking about David on television, but that sort of very sharp, black and white, streamlined, kind of modest luxury,” said Tom Ford.
British singer-songwriter Paloma Faith provided the soundtrack to the Burberry show, accompanied by six violinists and two cellists, setting a romantic mood for the new collection which offered up dozens of new variations of the brand’s bestselling trench coat.
The upcoming autumn and winter collection included long flowing dresses and scarves, even on men.
There was plenty more warm outerwear to choose from, including blanket coats and woolen ponchos in bold geometric prints, and heavy blanket scarves embroidered with initials.
“Well, I wanted it to feel very romantic, very individual and each piece was done by hand and therefore it had real individuality. But I also wanted it to be very sophisticated with a slight nuance of sexiness,” said the brand’s designer, Christopher Bailey.
