Miley Cyrus and Madonna shared the stage this week for MTV’s latest Unplugged show. The explosive pop stars performed a medley of Madonna’s hit “Don’t Tell Me” and Cyrus’ recent smash “We Can’t Stop”.
The 21-year-old singer talked about her admiration for Madonna, a source of inspiration in her career:
“I want to always embrace new artists. And as I get older I want to continue to evolve with artists. And that’s what I think was so cool about Madonna doing that. It’s not looking at me as someone that just looks at her and tries — because I’m not trying to replicate her or be her, but we’re standing for a similar freedom.”
The former Hannah Montana star also talked about her upcoming “Bangerz” tour that, according to the singer, will feature more singing than twerking:
“As a musician, trying to figure out how to make all of those samples and those snares come alive — so we’re having a lot of fun mixing live and electronic. So for nerdy musicians, it’s a lot of fun trying to figure out all of these different sounds. It’s actually really cool…I’m not going to get up there and dance because I’ve got to sing live. So it’s like to have things that people can watch other than me, but it be about the music and not about me trying to keep up with choreography and singing and all of that — it’s just nice to look at.”
Cyrus, whose “Bangerz” singles “We Can’t Stop” and “Wrecking Ball” were snubbed at the Grammys, is kicking off her tour on Feb.14th. in Vancouver.
The second leg of the tour will visit Europe and is currently scheduled to include eighteen shows beginning on May 2 in Amsterdam, and will conclude on June 7 in Zürich.
