Big Spending Paris Saint Germain showed off their latest acquisition on Wednesday when they unveiled France international Yohan Cabaye.
28-year-old Cabaye has agreed a three-and-half year deal with the French champions who paid Newcastle United 23 million euros for the midfielder.
Cabaye was lured away from the north east of England by the prospect of playing Champions League football.
At his presentation Cabaye said: “We (Newcastle) had trouble in qualifying for the Champions League last season. We were very close the first season but last year was very difficult. We did have a deal between myself and the club which meant I could not have come in the summer but but the possibility of moving away this winter presented itself and they (newcastle) respected the deal we had. That’s why I want to say a big thank you to Newcastle and I will not forget the two years and a half I was there because I really enjoyed my time there.”
The former Lille player joined Newcastle in June 2011 and scored 17 goals in 79 appearances for the magpies.
PSG currently top Ligue 1 and will face Bayer Leverkusen in the last 16 of the Champions League next month.
Cabaye’s first match in a PSG shirt, though, could come this Friday when the capital club take on Bordeaux in the league.
