As protests in Ukraine continue to spread beyond Kyiv, opposition demonstrators took control of more local government premises on Saturday.
Hundreds stormed a municipal building in the city of Vinnytsia, nearly 200 kilometres southwest of the capital.
Amid scenes resembling events elsewhere in the country, riot police tried to hold protesters back to stop them from getting further into the building.
Similar attempts have been reported on Saturday at Poltava to the east of Kyiv, and at Chernigov to the north near the border with Belarus.
In the western city of Lviv protesters have been occupying local government offices since last week.
However in the president’s eastern bastion of Donetsk, the past days have seen demonstrations in support of Yanukovych.
The situation around the country varies, but anti-government protesters are said to have occupied local authority buildings in at least nine regions, with a power struggle going on in several others.
