In ‘Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit’, Chris Pine becomes the fourth actor to take on the role of Tom Clancy’s fictional character.
This is not his first experience playing a hero – he also played Captain Kirk in JJ Abrams’ two “Star Trek” movies.
“All heroes in stories have a real kind of strict shade of individualism. No matter what structures they work within, they’re not going to be run by ideology. They’re motivated by a personal sense of morality, of right and wrong, that is just good and right and kind of timeless and they won’t be told what to do. They’ll work within the system but if they feel like they need to protect something, they’re willing to go against it. I think that is what attracted me to this character. I had no real desire to make a pro-America movie. I wanted to make a movie about a good man,” said Chris Pine.
Unlike previous Jack Ryan movies, this one does not follow the plot of any specific Clancy book. It is the story of a young CIA agent who uncovers a Russian plan to crash the US economy with a terrorist attack.
The film is directed by Kenneth Branagh, who also plays the bad guy.
“We were trying to find this weird hybrid of the classical DNA of a Clancy story, which was Cold War, often Russia-America, but put it into the 21st century,” said Branagh.
Chris Pine and co-stars Kevin Costner and Keira Knightley have been commended for their performances in this entertaining action movie which delivers exactly what can be expected of a “well-oiled Hollywood franchise“http://www.rollingstone.com/movies/reviews/jack-ryan-shadow-recruit-20140116.
“Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit” is on worldwide release from now.
