Continental Cup: Back-to-back titles in sight for Donbass

Donbass Donetsk are one win away from defending their Continental Cup title following a 5-1 thrashing of Italian champions Asiago in the final pool in Rouen France.

Vaclav Nedorost opened up the scoring for the Ukrainian side after 4 and a half minutes of play.

Five seconds into the first power play on 12 minutes Oleg Piganovich doubled Donbass’ lead and just 80 seconds later it was 3-0 courtesy of former Florida Panthers defenseman Clay Wilson.

Yevgeni Dadonov scored the fourth Donbass goal after making light work of the Asiago defence.

André Signoretti scored a consolation goal for the Italians but Donbass had the last laugh as with three minutes left, captain Ruslan Fedotenko hit the mark to complete the 5-1 rout.

A victory against tournament hosts Rouen Dragons on Sunday in the final group game in France will see the Ukrainians retain the title.
