The US State Department is complying with a demand from New Delhi to withdraw a US diplomat from India after Washington effectively expelled an Indian envoy at the center of a dispute between the allies.
The demand came just hours after the Indian diplomat, Devyani Khobragade, left the US.
Khobragade, who was India’s deputy consul-general in New York, was arrested in December on charges
of visa fraud and lying to US authorities about what she paid her housekeeper.
The US diplomat who will be leaving India was not identified.
