Several people were injured, some seriously, in the suburbs of Kyiv on Friday when anti government protesters clashed with police.
The conflict was triggered by guilty verdicts in a criminal court case that was denounced as a sham.
Ex-Interior Minister and former political prisoner Yuriy Lutsenko was beaten and later hospitalised in an intensive care ward.
Yuriy Bublyk from the Svoboda party said: “We were standing here to support the unfairly convicted patriots, but the government as usual used force, “Berkut” (riot police), sticks, tear gas…”
More scuffles broke out when protesters tried to block police vans transporting the prisoners from the court building.
