Italian police have arrested seven people for an alleged waste disposal scandal around Rome.
Italy has been taken before the European Court of Justice for failing to resolve the trash situation, especially in the Lazio region, which includes Rome.
The owner of a landfill site in Malagrotta was arrested as well as other local businessmen and regional officials. 18 million euros in assets was seized as part of the ongoing investigation.
A lack of landfill areas around the city has led to rubbish piling up in Rome’s streets for over a year.
