Tuna fetches $70,000 at world's largest fish market in Tokyo
The first tuna auction of the year at the world’s largest wholesale fish market was held in Tokyo on Sunday. More than 1,700 tuna hauled from ports around Japan and overseas filled the floor.
A 230-kilogramme bluefin tuna from northeast Japan fetched 7.3 million yen, or about 70,000 dollars, at Tsukiji market.
The auction attracts high bids as a celebratory way to launch the new year. Prized bluefin tuna is increasingly popular in countries, including China.
