Saudi Arabia is giving the Lebanese army three billion dollars in aid. Lebanon’s President Michel Suleiman called it the largest grant ever to the country’s armed forces.
The Saudi move is being seen as it trying to counterbalance Hezbollah – the most powerful armed militant group in Lebanon and funded by arch enemies Iran.
It will help also Lebanon’s armed forces deal with violence spreading over the border from Syria’s civil war.
