Vatican's calendar boys go on sale

The latest entirely unofficial Hot Priests calendar is out in Rome and Venice.

Known as the Vatican beefcake calendar by locals, it began in 2003 when a photographer had the idea – and has since become an international cult item.

While there are some doubts about whether or not the handsome young men featured are all clerics, there is little doubt some will be hot under the collar, and Mr April should see more than just Jesus rising again.

But vanity, some may say, is a deadly sin. For the church however, facing recruitment problems and an aging priesthood, the calendar is seen as ideal publicity and a way of presenting a more modern face.
