Thousands of people have lined the streets of Pretoria to catch a glimpse of Nelson Mandela’s coffin.
The funeral cortege made its way through the streets of the city from the capital’s main military hospital to the Union Buildings.
Mandela’s body will lie in state for three days and the funeral procession will be repeated on Thursday and Friday mornings.
The Union Buildings are where the anti-apartheid hero was inaugurated as the country’s first black president in 1994.
Members of the public will be given a chance to say their own personal goodbyes to Mandela while his coffin is there.
On Sunday Mandela will be buried at his ancestral home in Qunu in the Eastern Cape province.
