Switzerland’s Lara Gut continued her great run of form this season
as she downed Tina Weirather to claim a women’s alpine World Cup super-G in Lake Louise on Sunday.
The 22-year-old posted a winning time of 1 minute and 22.86 seconds at the Alberta resort and this result sees her regain the lead in the overall World Cup standings ahead of Germany’s Maria Hoefl-Riesch.
Weirather, who was bidding for her first world cup win, finished 3 hundredths of a second behind, en route to her fourth podium finish this season.
Austria’s Anna Fenninger came third while local favourite Lindsey Vonn again showed improvement in her return from a knee injury.
The US Olympic champion, who told journalists she wouldn’t do the full World Cup schedule leading up to the Sochi Olympics, was fifth just behind Elisabeth Goergl of Austria.
