Former Giro D’Italia winner Danilo Di Luca has been given a life ban from cycling following a third doping offence.
The 37-year-old, one of Italy’s most successful riders of the last 15 years, tested positive for EPO on April 29, just five days before the start of the Giro d’Italia.
He had previously been suspended for three months in 2007 for frequent visits to Carlo Santuccione, a doctor banned for his involvement in doping and received a two-year ban reduced to 15 months for a positive EPO test at the 2009 Giro.
