A court in Milan has released a document proving that former Italy prime minister Silvio Berlusconi paid for sex with dancer Karima El Mahroug, known as “Ruby,” in 2010.

The former premier was convicted in June for having sex with an underage prostitute and abuse of power. He was sentenced to seven years in jail and banned from public office.

The newly-published court document explains that Berlusconi lavished Ruby, who was 17 at the time, with considerable sums of money and other items such as jewellery in exchange for sexual services.

The 77-year-old is considered unlikely to see the inside of a prison cell, due to his age.

The Italian Senate is set to vote next week on whether he is to be stripped of his life-long seat.
