The first snow of the season has arrived in parts of France and Spain, causing disruption to the roads.
In Saint Etienne, about 100 kilometres south east of Lyon, residents woke up to around 30 centimetres of snow Commuters there struggled to get to work.
One driver stuck in traffic said: “We had a short journey to do so we thought it would be ok… but it’s not !”“We can’t go to work. There are huge traffic jams, it’s impossible to drive” another driver added.
25 departments in France between the Ardennes and the Alpes are on high alert with more snowfall forecast from wednesday night until Friday morning.
A strong mistral is forecast to bring heavy snow across the Alps and deep snow is likely across high ground in southern France.
In Spain, 15 provinces in the north and east as well as the island of Mallorca are on high alert for more snow.
There have been strong winds and temperatures have dropped dramatically over the past few days.
