Deschamps extends France contract

France coach Didier Deschamps has extended his contract with the national team until 2016 after securing a place at next summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil.

The 45-year-old was rewarded a day after his players came from behind to beat Ukraine 3-2 on aggregate at the Stade de France.

Deschamps, who played for Marseille when they won the Champions League in 1993, captained Les Bleus to victories in the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000.

French Football Federation chairman Noel Le Graet is due to meet Deschamps on Wednesday to finalise the details of the new contract.
